CATL Invests in Wood-Based Graphite Producer to Support Battery Supply

China's battery maker CATL is backing a New Zealand firm developing graphite from forestry waste for lithium-ion batteries.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., one of the world's leading battery manufacturers, has announced an investment in a New Zealand-based company focused on converting forestry byproducts into graphite suitable for use in lithium-ion batteries. The move signals growing interest from major battery producers in securing alternative sources for critical battery materials.

The investment reflects CATL's strategy to diversify its supply chain for graphite, a key component in battery production.
